Service Description

20-week program designed to combat the symptoms of Parkinson's using research-proven High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) and Yoga, culminating in supervised outdoor community hikes throughout the greater Pittsburgh region. * HIIT classes: 45 min long, 10 in-person spots, dividing between strength and endurance training using the machines at To Life!, plus a Zoom community of up to 20 people exercising together. Three new classes posted to an online library per week. * Yoga classes: Focus on PD-specific stretching and positions with adaptations. Balance is addressed and is important for PD-related symptoms of rigidity, FOG, anxiety, instability. * Hikes/Walks: 1x per month the entire local community meets for a walk/easy hike at various locations throughout Pgh. Option to use urban poles for balance and ease of gait. (To Life! has 10 pairs to borrow.) Walking in nature and connecting with others have both been shown to have a positive impact on quality of life and overall emotional well-being. 10-15 people can attend due to safety and staffing. * Nutritional Counseling: After last year’s grant funded program, we found it necessary to help heal the gut microbiome to maximize the efficacy of PD meds. We will hold monthly group sessions (both virtually and in-person) to educate about various nutrition-related topics relevant to PD and answer any questions that you may have.
